April 24, 2022 is Pinhole Day

Save the Date!

International Pinhole Day takes place on the last Sunday in April.

This year it is April 24th, 2022

I want to celebrate that by taking a picture with my homemade pinhole camera on Pinholde Day, developing it and then putting it in the gallery where it will be published with all other pinhole pictures taken that day. No competition, no prizes, it's all about the fun!

I would be happy if you would like to be there. The invitation is really for everyone who is interested in pinhole photography! You do not need to bring any previous knowledge or special materials with you.

If you don't have a pinhole camera, we'll build one together that can be loaded with direct-positive paper.

Analogue images are created without us needing a negative. So you can go home with a finished picture.

If you like, you can also bring your own pinhole cameras. For example, there are ready-to-buy Ilford pinhole camera* or there are always interesting models made of wood on eBay*.

What is so fascinating about pinhole photography?

Photographing with a pinhole camera, sometimes also called a camera obscura, is a very minimalist and at the same time versatile type of photography.

You don't need much for a pinhole camera

You are very limited and yet you have an incredible number of options.

Color or black and white? You can choose. And you can expose negative film, positive paper, slide film or direct positive paper, instant prints, cyanotype paper, basically anything that is sensitive to light. As different as the materials are, so are the results you can achieve with them. And all this allows for a very calm, planned, almost meditative type of photography that encourages your creativity in a pleasant way.

 process

preparation

We meet on Saturday, April 23rd. at 10:00 a.m. to prepare and build our cameras at Lichtwert eV in the old malt works of Hoepfner Castle in Karlsruhe.

There we equip our new cameras with photo paper for the next day.

Please bring coffee, tea or cookie jars in different sizes.

Taking pictures on Pinhole Day

We will meet on Sunday April 24th. again at 10:00 a.m. to take pictures and then drive to Lichtwert to develop the pictures and to put new photo paper on our cameras and take pictures again.
Developing only takes about 5-10 minutes, so we can load the cameras with photo paper and take pictures several times.

Costs

Participation in the Pinholeday 2022 celebration is free.

There are material costs of approx. 10 EUR

If you have a pinhole camera that can expose films, you are more than welcome to bring it and take photos with it.

However, we will not develop negatives and enlarge images.

However, the development of images on direct positive paper will be possible and I will bring the materials with me.
